One of the problems with depression is that it can feel like there's always someone whispering (or yelling!) in your ear, "You suck! No one likes you!" And I know how hard it can be to believe people when they tell you that you actually DON'T suck and they DO in fact like you. But Josh, there are so many people out here who care about you and worry about you and are rooting for you—and who know in their hearts that the world is a much better place with you in it. Keep writing, and keep hitting "publish."
This is beautiful! Thank you for writing and being willing to be hopeful when it is really quite difficult to be so. Love is fragile but strangely also indestructible. Please keep going. We need you.
Been with you since Reston! Just saw your fan Deborah Tannen at the DC JCC, where you have performed, at a film screening of an hilarious film "Bad Shabbos." We loved it, and love you too.
Something in our human make up makes us think we may be the exception to the rule that every one of us is valuable and important. You keep reminding us what a struggle it is to stay in the mix. The forces we oppose are telling us that some people don't belong here or anywhere. I've been trying to stay aware of the scale of suffering: here, Gaza, Ukraine, El Salvador, so many places - without closing my heart ❤️. I enjoy SO MANY blessings. It is hard not to go into guilt or lose awareness. Good to hear from you ALWAYS!
thanks for so eloquently as usual giving ooice to those of us who have been there in depressed states..in fact in a major one of mine, I found you , first on the stage and then right there at the YMCA gym inspiring me on the treadmill. I hope you are back there again.. as you know,I live upstairs!! the doctor who sent me to the gymn also sent me to Viamins b12 and 6
juge difference.. ditto Buspar..or Buspirone.. i hope u will run those 3 components by your doctor. later Lexapro was added.. any drug works with some of us and not other.s.. but some really do work.. as much as I hate Big Pharma, some drugs have kept me and family and friends going./lastly it should be remembered that a likely hero of yours.. Linus Pauling started his chemistry research because his mom was depressed and of course he wanted to help and find out why... it was food reactions and thousands were locked up in mental health institutions because of such.. He went on to win the Nobel Peace prize. the only person ever to win 2 Nobels.. on his own. Hope all our good wishes and my unsolicited advice will be some sort of aid to your peace and that of other! your Foever Fan,,Laura X
On the most personal note--again, who in hell am I to give advice?--in these shitty times, and considering the state of mind you find yourself in, I would advise or suggest you *ration* your political pondering and activity. You know, Mon/Wed/Fri or alternate weeks or some damn scheme to keep yourself going. And that seems to be what everybody else in our uh team seems to be doing. We let heal the bruise we get on our forehead from bashing our head into the brick wall for a bit before we go at it again. So it's Save World, Save Self, Save World, Save Self . . .
All in all, pretty pathetic stab at advice, and anyway, as we read about women's needs
in those Mars/Venus tomes, sometimes people don't seek advice, just need to be heard.
Got a bit of good news today. While Our Dear Leader took away $ and food--surplus vegetables and poultry--from food bank programs, California has a law prohibiting markets and restaurants from willy-nilly throwing out food, so this is helping various soup kitchens and food distribution folk, like our local Catholic church in San Pablo, keep up with distributing food to those in need.
A "workaround," if you will. And the neighbors who told me about this who work passing out food to folk who need it are Republicans, so I won't write em all off as Evildoers, just temporarily off the rails. (I suppose that's how they look at me!) maintain, joe

I’m glad you hit “publish.” Thank you.
Why am I not surprised, Professor, that you too are a Kornbluth fan!
Yes -- you did hit publish! And -- "We" are here!
Love you and feel you! Keeping hitting publish. How wonderful that your sharing of your heart demonstrates solidarity and is encouraging!

Thank you Josh. You are a wise and generous soul, and I so appreciate you!
Thank you, Josh!
So good, and so useful. So yes, please continue to publish what you write!
Thank you for your words, your activism, and for sharing Joni Mitchell.
Hang in there, Josh. The humor and love is still there underneath that black cloud. Thanks for sharing with us.
