I wanted to say hi to you, but I’m not ready to write a whole post. So — as kind of an experiment — here’s a song I wrote many years ago, “I Will Try to Maintain.” I performed this, with me on guitar and my dear friend Joshua Raoul Brody on accordion, this past Feb. 15, at the lovely Noe Valley Ministry in San Francisco — opening a bill of musicians whose connecting attribute was that our first name began with “J” (with a preponderance of Joshes).
Joshua is an amazing musician; I am but an amateur. But I was thrilled that he’d invited me, so I decided to be brave and participate in my first paying gig as a singer-songwriter.
I make up these little songs from time to time, and I’ve been fantasizing about sharing some of them with you — and maybe even writing and performing a few just for you. So, inspired by my first (strong) coffee of the day, I’m going to send this little tune out to you and see what happens!
Towards the end of the song, I spontaneously asked the audience to sing along with me. When they actually did, I was shocked and totally delighted. A peak experience.
