Hi Josh! First let me say how much I have enjoyed reading your newsletter. Happy Belated Birthday!

I am happy to see your return to prioritizing your health. And you know what else is super important in terms of body composition? Ah, you guessed it. Exercise! Give me a call if you want to talk about it. You have my # xxoo

Good luck with the diet--buuuut in general, people later fall off diets with a thud, both for physical and emotional reasons. Bla bla.

Okay, you're gonna start with the diet. But afterwards I advise you to just *make and keep good habits*! Mainly, avoid the bad shit, which is easier to do than trying to read instructions while eating, as if you were trying to assemble IKEA furniture or bake a cake or sump'n. Especially avoid the

whites: white sugar/rice/flour/potatoes, chips. Right there you'll be just about home free. Also forget soda water, period. (Nag, nag.) You can gorge on green veggies galore, fruit, modest amount of meats.

It's not that tough--just avoid the whites n soda water and you'll be bettah off.

Now if I could just get off beer, sigh . . .

I'm proud of you! You can do it! I've started a diet this week too, also very overweight. Wish me luck. :-) No, wait. Let's both wish us both luck.

Well, Josh, best of luck. I seem to remember some spirited games of ping pong with you. If I lived closer to you I'd suggest we take up that to burn off at least a few calories. And congrats on the success of your Substack. I've given a bunch of your free 1-month subs to friends and acquaintances, and just heard from my pal, Peter Taft, in Iowa City, who said, "Thanks Pablo!- I Like his writings!"

Please, please, please be careful. Both of my parents did that same liquid diet. They looked and felt absolutely amazing!! For about a year, then they both gained the weight back, plus. I hope by now the liquid diet managers have figured out the maintenance program. I know how desperate you are. I am the same size as you.

I can relate to wanting to lose weight. I'm near my heaviest adult weight at this moment, which I attribute primarily to being extremely sedentary since the beginning of the pandemic. I was at my lightest when I was in marathon training back in 2012-2013. Back then, as with you while distance cycling, I could eat unlimited quantities of whatever I wanted. Though in my case I avoid animal products for ethical reasons, there's still plenty of vegan junk food to be found, especially here in the SF Bay Area.

Josh, beware! My doctor said mammals aren't designed to eat protein daily. He suggested an occasional protein fast to protect one's pancreas.
