The longer we live (I am 76 with no end in sight yet), sadly, the more of our loved family members and friends precede us. As I grow older, with the accompanying aches and pains of aging added to the ever mounting toll of losses, I question whether long life is such a blessing. I am sorry for the loss to you of your mother. Try to keep your health and treasure those close to you who remain. And, when possible, try to find a new friend or two.
What a lovely tribute to your mother. There comes a time when we all understand that it’s not about blaming or forgiving so much as it is accepting that we are all imperfect human beings doing our best. Thank you for sharing that!
You got to me again. Had a close relationship with my mom who died in 2009. She managed to live as long as her mother/my grandmother, to 91. Boundaries was our major issue which she never quite got. A relief when she was gone but yes, memories continue to pop up, mostly good as the years soften the difficult and frustrating. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Josh, thank you for your poignant words here. I am so sorry for your loss.
I lost my own mother four months ago (also in Chicago), and it’s oddly comforting to know that others are going through the same kind of experience—while also wishing, of course, that absolutely no one else had to go through said experience.

Beautiful. Thank you for sharing your journey. I love that your mom mellowed and you are able to feel it.

Thank you Josh!
My mom's been gone for more than 13 years. I miss her Every. Single. Day. May your sweet mother's memory continue to be a blessing.
And your mother’s as well, Marla!

Sending lots of healing thoughts your way. ❤️🩹
Grief is so complicated and long. <3 I lost someone important to me in 2022 and I'm still learning from it.
My heart goes out to you, Marie!
