What an excellent human, your Dad was, Josh! I second the comment from Jeanne, these memories need to be shared - in a book! The never ending "good" fight continues on all levels. Thanks again for what you do.

Very moving. I appreciate casting aside the comedic persona (which is still real, in its own way, of course) and going right into the deep, personal feelings and family history you share with us here. It's the story of all of us who fight to make things better (I had to struggle there to avoid lefty boilerplate)--we exist on all these levels, from self-deprecating references to ourselves (sometimes) to "correct," stiff speechifying . . . and this, just plain heartfelt longings for a better world, stripped of all the razzamatazz. This is how we really feel. abrazos, joe

Josh, In your search to loose weight you found your father Paul and his letters to his family. These letters are worth their weight in gold....just like you Josh! We love you!

Sure is a lot of history here. I just read a story about the Sullivanians in the New Yorker, and I was going to rallies for Henry Wallace with my parents when I was in junior high school in Southern California.

I love the combination of gutsy curiosity and tenderness as you take on the big mystery of family history. Bravo.

Wow, the Sullivanians have become a trendy subject to gawk at. That would seem to explain much of your grandparents’ behavior.

I'm planning to read that new book about the Sullivanians.
